Play Some Kind of New Sound

I never really got around to post all my favourites from the fall fashion shows, and now we're in the middle of resort 2011. I've never really understood the point of resort and cruise. To me, most of these collections lack identity and enthusiasm, so I never pay too much attention to them. But there's always something that stands out from the rest, and for some reason I really like this resort collection from Rag & Bone. While there aren't really any groundbreaking designs here, there's plenty of good styling and wonderful garnments I'd love to stick in my closet, like the gorgeous dress above. Everything feels fresh, young, and easy.

Full collection here.

Explosions in the Sky

How wonderful and wonderfully simple is the Christopher Kane Resort collection? I've read some complaints that the shapes and silhouettes are too safe and boring for C.K, but this is resort after all.

I love the prints he chose and the shapes he chose to display the prints. Everything looks lightweight, perfectly tailored and very fresh. My only complaint is the styling of the model; I can't seem to get into the no-eyebrows trend.

My favourite was, predictably enough, the shoes, though I won't be seeing those on the rich and beautiful in the near future. From style.com:
Is there no limit to Kane's prodigious growth? Well, maybe. The wedges in these pictures aren't for sale. "We didn't have any shoes, so we cobbled them together ourselves with gaffer tape and whatnot in the studio," he admits. "But I liked it, sort of walking on clouds!"
Guh, but I want them!

Neverending Story

Rachel Roy Resort 2010

Rachel Roy Resort 2010 isn't full of must-haves, though there are quite a few beautifully tailored pieces scattered across the collection (like the gorgeous dresses featuring cutouts at the back). My main reason for posting the looks above is the fact that the headpiece strongly reminded me of the Neverending Story and the Childlike Empress. After some picture-googling, I noticed that the original headpiece is quite a bit different, and I actually think I prefer the Rachel Roy one.

Resort 2010: Early Favourites

Calvin Klein Resort 2010

Is it really resort time already?

Time flies, but resort collections stay more or less the same. Everything is a bit toned down and less creative than the main collections, which is expected. I don't think I've yet come across a full resort collection where I've loved every look, but there are always a few gems to be found.

Though it's still early, I think Calvin Klein will turn out to be one of my favourites. The ridiculously sheer pants and skirts confuse me a bit, and most of the dresses are similarly risque, but they are certainly pleasing to the eye, and look really comfortable to wear.

Donna Karan Resort 2010

Much of the Donna Karan collection was a bit too safe and boring for my taste, but I love the two dresses above. The colour combinations are very much me, and I love the way the fabric is draped across the shoulders. From what I can see, the shoes look flawless as usual.

Yigal Azrouel Resort 2010 / Donna Karan Resort 2010

I don't care much for the full looks above, but the Yigal Azrouel jacket is worth mentioning, with its contrasting fabrics and colours. The scallop-edged Donna Karan top is simply divine.
