To the Bones

I intended to do a London round-up today, but then these came along and interrupted the schedule. I'm all out of words right now, but I know I need these boots in my life. Need. DSquared2 skeleton heels. Insane!

Brit Feet

Louise Goldin

London Fashion Week is done, and of course I found some footwear to throw my gaze upon.

The ankle boots at the Louise Goldin show were pretty much a great example of how a perfect boot shoud look like; sleek, dangerously tall, but with a sturdy and interesting heel. Well done!

At the Mark Fast show, the prettiest Louboutins so far this season were shown, and at Sass & Bide more glamorous version of stripper heels clomped down the catwalk. I'm still not comfortable with clear plastic on shoes, but they are fun to look at.

The Darker Side

threeASFOUR - full collection

Before moving on to the European fashion weeks, I'd like to point out the few collections from New York that really made an impression on me. Fellow blogger bravegrrl steered me towards threeASFOUR (thank you!), with a strong, dark and amazing collection derived from alchemy and metals. The looks weren't as readily wearable as most New York fashion normally is, but I'm pleased to see designers who aren't afraid of taking risks.

Rad Hourani - full collection

A relatively new player in the fashion game, Canadian born Rad Hourani always amaze me with his dark visions. While sticking mostly to black, the textures and cuts prevent this collection from ever coming close to boring, and the versatility of the pieces amaze me. According to style.com, "Apparently, there was a single jacket on the runway worn ten different ways."

Narciso Rodriguez - full collection

While not exactly colourful, I loved the use of colour in the Narciso Rodriguez fall collection. Fluid, organic and rather minimalistic, with what feels like shadows playing across the fabrics.

I Made This

For a while, bloggers were studding, ripping, shredding and bleaching anything that could be studded, ripped, shredded or bleached. Lately, I haven't seen as many of these projects floating around, and the Do It Yourself-trend seems to have run its course. Fortunately, a few bloggers with above average skills have persisted, like Erika of PS - I Made This. I'm amazed by how her Proenza Schouler jumper turned out!

And of course I'm head over heels in love with anybody who can turn what looks like basic stripper shoes into the creations below. While she mostly focuses on interior design, Lauren of (IN)DECOROUS TASTE also knows her way around footwear. For more pictures, here are the direct links to the mirrored shoe, the crystal shoe and the shackled wedge, as well as this ruffled wedge and this one with painted canvas.

Wuthering Heights

Proenza Schouler

I've been a very bad blogger lately, but the days only have 24 hours, and I've had a mountain of tasks to dig through this week. Hopefully, I'll have more spare time the rest of fashion month.

Obviously, the most important fashion related task on my list is to gather up pictures of brand new footwear. Seems like the designers of New York want us to keep wearing platform boots and sandals with thick heels. Fine with me, but I can't make up my mind about the Proenza Schouler disco shoes; are they brilliant or just hideous?

The boots at the Narciso Rodriguez show weren't groundbreaking, but the simple bend of the heel makes them interesting enough for me.

And then there was Calvin Klein. Such beauties. The brushed metal gives them almost a fragile feel, while the rubber sole might make them easier to wear than the height indicates. No doubt these will be among my favourites of the season.

Vanish Into The Air

Ohne Titel

I haven't officially fallen in love with any of the collections from New York Fashion Week yet, but I do normally need some time to properly digest everything. I also often find NYFW as a whole to be more about trends than design, and much of it feels like something I've seen done before.

NYFW to me serves as an inspiration for playing with clothes I already own. I'm currently experimenting with a lighter palette, so my eyes are drawn to anything head-to-toe white or light grey. My favourites so far are gathered in this post.

End of an Era

Oh God. Only yesterday I was wondering what Alexander McQueen would come up with to top his last collection, and now he's gone forever. This is just too sad and shocking for words. The fashion industry has lost one of its most talented members, and I'm certain we'll all miss him.
Rest in peace.

Such A Lovely Colour For You

I've come across the image of Sasha Pivovarova looking like a "sad clown" several times lately, and today I found the rest of the editorial. Tim Walker has created yet another a fantasy world for UK Vogue readers, and I'm very fascinated by the set. While the title of the editorial is China White, and we're meant to think of porcelain, the wall reliefs mostly remind me of traditional Norwegian rose paintings. Anyway, the enlargened patterns certainly play their role in making Sasha look like a fragile china doll.

White tights seem to be the new thing, with or without patterns. I'd love to find something similar to the ones above, though I've neither got the wardrobe or complection to be able to wear head-to-toe white. I have been trying to wear lighter shades lately, but I'm still far away from pure white.
