Go Ask Alice

If I'm going to post costume editorials, I can't avoid posting this one. Natalia Vodianova as Alice in Wonderland, shot by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue US. I love this for being fun an quirky, and for all the designers they've managed to include; Karl Lagerfeld, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Olivier Theyskens among others! Revolutionary

Dublin one weekend, Halloween the next. I've volunteered to organize a halloween party for almost 30 people this Saturday, which means I'm currently busy with planning food, snacks, decorations, prizes, games and drinks. Because of all this planning, I'm going to be lazy the next few days and post great editorials.

Actually, I'll be posting great costume themed editorials. Do you want to be Marie Antoinette or something similar for Halloween? Then this is for you. Unique

I haven't really got time for blogging at all right now, as I've got to start writing a big paper that's due Wednesday, but I just had to post these beauties that I picked up in Dublin two days ago. I love the mix of textures, the extra long laces and of course the unique silver heel. They are also surprizingly easy to wear - I went clubbing with them on Saturday and didn't even get a blister!

Guitar Hero

At the Karl Lagerfeld SS10 show, models were decorated with brooches and pins featuring arrows, guitars, and Lagerfeld himself with a guitar. While I appreciated these recurring themes, there were other details I liked even more.

I always find something to obsess over at Lagerfeld's shows, like these gorgeous bracelets. They look like they were made of laser-cut patent leather. So pretty!

It's not often that I prefer the flats at a show over the heels, but these are some of the prettiest flats I've ever seen. Featuring the same laser-cuts as the bracelets, they manage to look both pretty and, I think, sexy.

The pattern continued on the finale looks; these dresses are embellished with siver filigree defining shoulders, necklines and waists. The effect slightly reminds me of the bracelets from Lagerfed's SS09 collection, which I still adore.

Theater of Fashion

I've had a nice and calm weekend. Got little of importance done, but I had plenty of time to search around for inspiration and pretty pictures. I've been going through some of Steven Meisel's older work, and stumbled across this beautiful editorial from Vogue Italia, October 1998. It's one of the most emotion-filled editorials I've ever seen, which makes sense considering the title. My favourites are the black and white shots, so striking! The Daily Wedge

What's new at Browns this week? These gorgeous suede wedges from Osman Yousefzada, which I fell for six months ago during the last London fashion week. Loved them then, love them now. If I could, I'd pair them with a simple black and white outfit with some geometric touches and organic jewelry.

Tribute to Fashion

Alberta Feretti / Etro / Moschino / Missoni

While I'm usually a Coke Zero girl, I'd buy these in a heartbeat if I could. No chance of that, though, as they were auctioned off during a fund raising campaign in Milan in support of earthquake victims. I love the work that was put into the designs representing eight different fashion houses, and wish they were available in stores.

Noir Galore

More wedges! I should probably temporarily rename my blog "Heavy Wedges", because these tall shapes are everywhere. I haven't even gotten around to posting the extremities at McQueen yet...

These are from Tanja S London, a brand new shoe designer who has previously been working for Jimmy Choo, amongst others. I wish I knew of an online retailer who stocks these, because they are divine. Body Paint

One of the things we learned after watching the shows this season is that it's ok to decorate your body with ink.

Chanel did cute and girly jewelry-inspired tattoos around necks and thighs. At Jean Paul Gaultier the models got their names and words written on their arms and necks in a bold, gothic font. Rodarte featured arms covered in tribal tattoos. Three very different ways of adding a little extra flavour to the runway, and three big successes. Do you have a favourite?

Haute Houses

I should probably be getting some sleep right now, because I'm finding these rings way more fascinating than they probably deserve. These are hand-made mini buildings and cities in gold placed on rings. You know, for your fingers. You can even get a custom made replica of your own house if you should feel like it. More of these strangely awesome pieces can be found at this blog, or at the home page of the creator, Philippe Tournaire.

Snakes and Tigers

Alber Elbaz consistently produces great, feminine clothes in a familiar style, and I'm always charmed by his designs. But even though the SS10 collection was described as "...a triumph of breathtaking technical achievement" at Style.com, it was the jewelry I couldn't take my eyes off.

These necklaces must be the definition of statement jewelry. Tigers and snakes in jet black, gold, white, red and turquoise were draped around models' necks on thick, jewel-encrusted chains. These masterpieces looked heavy, bold and exquisitely crafted. I wonder how much one of these will cost if they ever make it to the stores, and if I can pay with something insignificant, like my left arm.
