Finally done with my exams! It actually feels a bit weird to get back to blogging, though I haven't taken much more than a week off. We're still "enjoying" some seriously cold weather here in Norway, and I've become a layering champion. Trying to look good is not as important as staying warm, but I've found that maxi dresses and skirts are great both for layering purposes and for hiding ugly leg warmers and bulky stockings.

I really enjoy the colours in the two looks above. I've been wearing a lot of beige and grey lately, and now I'll have to find something red to add to the mix. Both pictures are from Café Mode.

Finally, I'd like to say thank you to everybody who's been leaving comments lately. I've been reading them all, and I really appreciate your kind words! I'll be spending some time the next few days catching up with all of you.

If you've followed this blog for a while, you know I'm a big fan of the bi-annual Accessory Report from style.com. This year, it is called the Accessories Index, and it's bigger than ever. With a total of 5140 items, it's a dream for somebody like me. The only problem is that I've been browsing accessories instead of studying for my exams, but there is still time for that.

Among the styles that caught my attention were these Givenchy shoes. They are all totally gorgeous, but so steep! Being a ballet dancer might be to your advantage if you want to be anything approaching comfortable while wearing these...

I'm always complaining about the lack of great shoes or the lack of good detail shots of footwear after a fashion month is over, but in retrospect there was quite a bit of both on the SS 2011 runways. The almost-wedge appeared in a few shows this season; at least that's what I call these really chunky heels with a little bit of space left open between the toes and the heel.

I really like the soft shape of the Dries Van Noten shoes, and appreciate the quirky charm of the Fendi pairs, but I think Chanel missed the mark on these. They feel a bit cheap and awkward, not at all what I like to associate with the brand. One hit and one miss from Karl, I guess.

Orange better become a colour trend next season, as this took me long enough to make.

Seriously, though, orange seems like a hard colour to pull off, but it can be really pretty and eye-catching when done right. And with a range of shades this wide, there should be something out there for everybody, including me with my pale, Nordic skin.

And I only hate you 'cause I love you. See, I was really excited when Zara opened up an online store, and almost heartbroken when I realized they're not shipping to Norway. I know we're just a tiny country, but we love online shopping! At least I do!

It's almost painful to browse their site, because there are just so many items that would go perfectly with everything else in my closet. Like these tiny, shiny bags. Fortunately, I bought one of them when in Barcelona this summer, but I've come to realize that I really need a red one as well.

The second best thing about Lanvin spring/summer 2011 might be the fact that there weren't a single white garnment in the collection. The best part was every single one of the looks above, including the shoes. Finally some non-boring, non-safe heels!

Normally, Lanvin is a bit too feminine and frothy for my tastes, but this season it's one of my favourites. The fabrics, silhouettes, colours, accessories and even the styling is superb.

Even when I stubbornly ignored half of the looks Ghesquière sent out on the runway earlier today (Houndstooth? Glitter? Really?), there was so much left to appreciate. And even when there wasn't a high heel in sight, I enjoyed the shoes. I love the way Ghesquière mixes texture and layers, and how he plays with textures and layers. Superb!

Fashion month so far has mostly been full of things I don't care for. I like the occational show, but some of the themes I've noticed are just not my style. First of all, there is way too much white. I've started wearing some white the past year, but that doesn't mean I'm forgetting the rest of the colour wheel. Second, everything feels tainted by the seventies or the nineties; two decades I can't stand, fashion-wise. And on top of this most of the wonderfully crazy footwear is gone.

At least everybody seems to agree that quirky little handbags are here to stay.

I've been looking for a pair of black leather boots for quite a while now, and not just any pair of black leather boots. I wanted something sleek, classy and sturdy, with a really tall and thick heel. A cross between impossibly tall and practical to walk in. A pair that would look great with any outfit; not too loud and not too boring.

I've been lusting after the Costume National and Wang boots above for a while, but unfortunately they're out of my budget. The other boots are perfectly affordable, but not really that covetable (if that is a real word), so I've kept looking. Yesterday I found these, from Steve Madden, and if they're only half as pretty as they look in these pictures, I'm happy! Yay new shoes!

Intelligent details and textures at Proenza Schouler. These new bags are not as good as the PS1, and I didn't like even one pair of the shoes, but the collection was still intriguing.

Right now I feel like the only thing I'll be posting from the ongoing fashion shows is a lot of detail shots. Nothing wrong with that, but I'd love to love all of something. It's a little too early to feel jaded, I guess; we're still only in New York.

The 2011 spring collection from Alexander Wang left me with more or less the exact feeling I had after seeing his fall collection; there are so many different details I can't stand, but I still somehow like most of it. Some of the shoes and some of the textures were brilliant, and even with the abundance of white used in the spring shows so far, it felt sort of refreshing coming from Wang.

At the moment I fall in love with every trend the magazines try to make happen, including this "new minimalism". The long, perfectly tailored trousers I'll have to admire from a distance, as I feel a little to short to make the look work, but the skirts, dresses and jackets are on my to-buy list.

In other news, today it was cold enough that I had to put on a jacket, which means fall is really here. Just in time for the spring/summer fashion month!

Everybody wants to be rich, right? Well, I want to be rich so I can afford a mansion with a huge, slightly spooky, slightly gothic library filled with all the books I've ever read. As much as I love fashion, reading is my favourite pasttime. I've always been an avid reader, and everybody, including myself, were certain I'd end up as an author. I've finally gotten used to the whole bra-as-a-top trend, and then fall happens, and showing off this much skin will only lead to a sore throat and a runny nose.

The picture above, from the lovely Vanillascented, was what really convinced me that lingerie as outerwear can look great. Her bra is from H&M, and I've been keeping an eye out for it all summer, with no luck. The H&M in my little town is certainly not among the best stocked ones. Going back to school today reminded me that I need some new boots. The ones I wore the most last fall/winter, were worn into the ground, and had to be tossed. It's silly, but getting rid of a pair of shoes I've worn a lot makes me sad.

I think this is the first time I post pictures of (almost all of) myself on this blog. Feels kind of strange. Both pictures are taken today, but my legs look like they belong to two different persons... I choose to see this as a sign that I need a better camera.

While shopping in Barcelona, it seems like I fell hard for this slightly retro looking skirt length. These dresses are incredibly comfortable, and they hide the only part of my body I'm not happy with (thighs). According to all the "trend bibles" I should be wearing tiny little kitten heels with them, but that just won't happen. While the JC clogs aren't new, the Topshop sandals are. And they're probably the most comfortable heels I own.

I think I've found my perfect basic fall boots. These pretty things can be found at Opening Ceremony. I really like the thick heel and the little details, like the metal bits on the black and brown pair.

First thing's first, though. Tomorrow I leave for Barcelona, which means this blog will be quiet for a little while. Can't wait to get on the plane!

I'm certain everybody and their cats know about the awesome swimsuit/bodysuit company We Are Handsome by now, but I'm posting some of their designs anyway. I really wish I could bring one of these bikinis with me when I leave for Barcelona in less than two weeks. Triangle bikini tops are the best ones for my body shape, and these prints are just perfect. I particularily love the print called The Bahamas, featuring flamingoes.

I found these (rather grainy) pictures I'd saved from Fashion Month back in February, and was instantly in a fall mood. These are from the Cerutti show; a brand I'm not at all familiar with, but I really like what they've got to offer for fall/winter. Great mix of colours and textures, the right amount of soft draping and interesting layering. In theory, we'll have summery weather for at least another month, but I'm certain a little preparation for fall can't hurt.

Pretty much everybody loved the main SS 2010 Alexander McQueen campaign, but I'm thinking this might be even better than Raquel Zimmermann covered in snakes. I've never been particularily fond of skulls, but they are such a big part of the McQueen brand that using skulls for advertising eyewear feels completely natural. And awesome.

Play Some Kind of New Sound

I never really got around to post all my favourites from the fall fashion shows, and now we're in the middle of resort 2011. I've never really understood the point of resort and cruise. To me, most of these collections lack identity and enthusiasm, so I never pay too much attention to them. But there's always something that stands out from the rest, and for some reason I really like this resort collection from Rag & Bone. While there aren't really any groundbreaking designs here, there's plenty of good styling and wonderful garnments I'd love to stick in my closet, like the gorgeous dress above. Everything feels fresh, young, and easy.

Summer has just arrived, and so have the first shoes from the fall collections. I've noticed some designers are trying to make kitten heels happen again, but I'm not on board. Both colours and details on these boots are gorgeous, but it's the shape I love. The shape and height.

Ok, Alexander Wang, fine. I was getting a bit tired of you, but keep this up and we can be friends. I've grown really fond of these two silhouettes, and it's refreshing to drool over shoes that aren't wedges once in a while.

More wedges! I almost wish designers would stop making such amazing shoes, there are already so many options for fall. These are by LD Tuttle, a brand I've heard great things about from fellow bloggers. The shoes are sturdy and easy to walk in, and I really, really want a pair.

Found my new maxi dress! In fact, I found two! I couldn't decide between a dark or a pale one, and since these were not too expensive, I got both.

If the new Raphael Young collection was shoes from outer space, this is the kind of jewelry you'd want to pair them with. These enormous necklaces come from London based designer Carianne Moore. I find them very gorgeous, but slightly intimidating. It's as if they're miniatures of the spaceships of some terrible alien race that would destroy Earth if they ever came across it. (I've been re-reading the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy lately, can you tell?) This doesn't stop me from loving them, though.

My Daily Style

I'm a rather short girl, and I think I've complained about that a few times. Ok, perhaps I'm of a rather average height, but when I surround myself with images from the fashion world I feel tiny. Lately, though, I've been wearing high heels pretty much all the time, and I think this has made me consider myself a bit taller than I really am. One result of this is that I want to wear clothes that often look better on tall people, like maxi skirts/dresses.

I've been rightclick+save-ing anything ankle-length I've come across lately, and the other day I found a blog that really fuelled this maxi obsession. The blog, My Daily Style, is mostly written in Spanish, but you don't need to know the language to appreciate the style. I've also been browsing online stores and streetstyle blogs, and this post is an outlet for some of the images I've gathered. Now I just have to find the perfect dress/skirt to purchase...

While these shoes from Alain Quilici have a very unique style, they still remind me a bit of Camilla Skovgaard's footwear. I think it's because both designers like to play with bold and strong elements. I also feel like both designers make shoes that are easy to walk in, considering how tall they are. Alain's comb wedge is a really interesting design, but I imagine I'd have to pick gravel out of it all the time. It would totally be worth it, though.
